# Windows to Mac Survival Guide: File Management Edition
ComfortFiles is a Windows Explorer-style file manager for macOS.
Most Windows Explorer habits have a Mac equivalent — they're just on different keys or buried in settings. Here is the translation table that covers most of the daily friction, the two behaviors that genuinely surprise every switcher, and what to do when the built-in answer isn't enough.

The broad rule: where Windows uses Ctrl, the Mac uses ⌘ (Command), which sits next to the space bar. Your thumb learns it faster than your index finger forgets Ctrl.
## The two big surprises
**Return renames. It doesn't open.** This is the one that gets everyone. In Finder, pressing Return on a file starts renaming it; opening requires ⌘O or a double-click. There is no setting to swap this.
**Folders don't sort first.** By default Finder interleaves folders and files alphabetically. There's a setting to keep folders on top — but it [only works when sorting by name](/guides/sort-folders-first-on-mac).
## Worth learning on the Mac side
Some Finder features have no Explorer equivalent and are genuinely good: press Space on any file for an instant full-size preview (Quick Look), and ⌘⇧. to flash hidden files visible without touching a terminal. Keep those even if you change nothing else.
