# How to Make ComfortFiles Your Default File Viewer

ComfortFiles is a Windows Explorer-style file manager for macOS.

Open the **ComfortFiles** menu in the menu bar and click **Use as Default File Viewer**. From then on, folders you open elsewhere — double-clicked on the Desktop, opened from another app — open in ComfortFiles instead of Finder.

<!-- TODO(owner): screenshot — the app menu with the checkmark visible. -->

## Turning it on

1. Click **ComfortFiles** in the menu bar (next to the Apple menu).
2. Select **Use as Default File Viewer**. A checkmark appears.

## Turning it off

Same place: click **Use as Default File Viewer** again to uncheck it. Folders open in Finder again immediately.

## Good to know

- **Finder keeps running either way.** macOS requires it — the Desktop and system dialogs are Finder. This setting only changes which app *opens folders*.
- **Uninstalling reverts automatically.** If you delete ComfortFiles, macOS falls back to Finder on its own — no cleanup needed. (Also covered in the [FAQ](/faq).)
